BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: His Excellency Ambassador Kire Ilioski, M.A.

Ambassador Ilioski is a Distinguished Fellow of New Westminster College. He studied at the Saints Cyril and Methodius University of Skopje and earned a Master of International Law and Diplomacy. Ambassador Ilioski is also a 2003 graduate of the College of International and Security Studies in Garmish-Partenkirhen. He has attended a number of education courses and seminars including: Integrated PfP/OSCE Course at the NATO Defence College in Rome; Diplomatic Training Study Tour by Global/Education Services (Washington D.C. and West Virginia); Field Studies in Brussels, Washington D.C., New York and Berlin; Participation at the “Eloquent Nugget 04” (Washington D.C); Advanced Training for the Fight Against Organized Crime – Joint European TEMPUS Project (2003, Syracuse, Italy); and Diplomatic Training Course on Middle East Diplomacy and Security issues (Cairo, Egypt). Ambassador Ilioski speaks English, Italian and Serbian.

Ambassador Ilioski has a distinguished record of ethical leadership and was appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Macedonia to the Kingdom of Sweden and Republic of Finland in January 2011. Before the NATO Summit in Bucharest, Ambassador Ilioski was appointed Ambassador, Head of Permanent Mission of the Republic of Macedonia to NATO in April 2008.

As a career diplomat Ambassador Ilioski has been engaged in NATO and EU related issues on several instances throughout his career. Before his appointment as Ambassador, he worked with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the Head of Department for NATO, Political and Security Cooperation, and as Deputy Head of Department at the Minister’s Office.

Being a specialist for regional affairs, Ambassador Ilioski has been posted abroad as Acting Ambassador, Minister Plenipotentiary at the Embassy in Belgrade, Serbia (2007-2008) during a very delicate period for the Balkan region, and before and after the proclamation of independence of Kosovo. During his service in Belgrade he was accredited as Acting Ambassador and Minister Plenipotentiary to the State of Israel as well.

Between 2005 and 2007 Ambassador Ilioski was posted to the Embassy in Budapest, Hungary, initially as Acting Ambassador and later promoted to Minister Councilor. From Budapest he was also responsible for the development of relations between Macedonia with Malaysia and Indonesia.

During the years of 2002-2004, Ambassador Ilioski carried out a number of duties in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs connected with the integration of Macedonia to NATO and the EU. He was Head of Department for EAPC/PFP, than Head of Department for Regional Initiatives and Security and finally Head of Department for Security of Classified Information. He has first-hand experience with various phases of the integration process of Macedonia to NATO and the EU.

Between 1995 and 2002, Ambassador Ilioski worked at the Directorate for Counter-Intelligence, holding several highly responsible positions, including:  Head of Operative Counter-Intelligence Department and Head of Direction for Analytical and Operational Research.
