BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: Brigadier General Dr. Rob Van der Meer, M.D.

Brigadier General Dr. Rob Van der Meer, M.D. is a Senior Fellow of New Westminster College. He is a Medical Doctor and graduate of the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam (1974-1981).

Brigadier General Dr. Rob Van der Meer has a distinguished record of ethical leadership and presently serves as the Surgeon General of the Netherlands Armed Forces. He concurrently serves as the Chairman of COMEDS. COMEDS is the Committee of Chiefs of Medical Services in NATO, a group that consists of the most senior leaders of military medicine in NATO, including all of the Surgeons General of the nations. COMEDS is directly subordinate to and reports to the Military Committee.

Brigadier General Dr. Rob Van der Meer’s senior-level leadership experience includes:

  • December 2007 – Present: Surgeon General at Ministry of Defence
  • November 2009 – March 2010: Commander NLD Netherlands Forces Afghanistan at ISAF
  • December 2004 – December 2007: Commander Health Care Agency Group at Ministry of Defence
  • October 2000 – December 2004: Commanding Officer of the Joint Medical Units in the MOD Support Command and Commander Institute for Cooperation with Partner Hospitals at Ministry of Defence
  • 1996 – 2000: Chief Medical Plans and Policy Branch at Office of the Surgeon General of the Army
  • 1994 – 2000: Chairman Physicians Section at NOV
