BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: Commander Gurjeet Malhi, B.Com., M.Sc.

Commander Gurjeet Malhi is a Fellow of New Westminster College. He earned a Bachelor of Commerce in Advanced Accountancy and Auditing from Pune University in 1985 and a Master of Science in Telecommunications (CUSAT) from Kochi University in 1989. Commander Malhi has language proficiency in English, Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati and Marathi.

Commander Malhi has a distinguished record of ethical leadership and retired in 2009 from a 21-year distinguished military career in the Indian Navy with the naval rank of Commander. He moved to Canada in 2009 after retiring from the Indian Navy and now works in the insurance services industry in British Columbia. He also previously served as the International Business Development Head for an immigration and education related firm in Canada, handling international business operations, providing business development in recruiting skilled talent, entrepreneurs and students to Canada from Asia, Europe and Latin American countries. Had global exposure and managed associates and maintained collaborative relationships in India, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Nepal and the United Arab Emirates.

Commander Malhi is highly experienced in the management, planning and smooth execution of international mega events. He supported the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver by serving as a Communications Professional for VANOC (Vancouver Organizing Committee for the Winter Games), and at the Functional Command Centre of the RCMP through CSC (Contemporary Security Canada).

Commander Malhi was a key organizer of the World Military Sailing Championships in Mumbai and the  4thWorld Military Games in Mumbai and  Hyderabad, in which 105 world nations participated. He also serves as a Joint Secretary of SSCB (Services Sports Control Board), which is a member of the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), IOC (Indian Olympics Committee), Commonwealth Games Federation, India, CISM (Council of International Military Sports), and was representing the organization in these bodies in various delegations, seminars and initiatives.

Commander Malhi was an active member of the Winter Games Federation of India from 2002-2005 and dealt with International and National Sports Federations, including BCCI, Yachting Association of India, Shooting Federation of India, Hockey Federation and Basketball Federation of India, and other Sports Federations and Bodies.
