Lieutenant General Michael A. Vane retired from the United States Army in 2011 and is a Distinguished Fellow of New Westminster College. He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He also earned a Master of Science degree in Joint Command, Control and Communications from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School.

Lieutenant General Vane has a distinguished record of ethical leadership. He presently serves as the Group Vice President of Training & Intelligence Solutions at DynCorp International. Lieutenant General Vane served more than 35 years in the U.S. Army, retiring as a Lieutenant General, successfully leading and managing a variety of organizations, including his last position leading the development of the Army of the Future, as the Director of the Army Capabilities Integration Center (ARCIC) and Deputy Commanding General, Future for TRADOC.  In this role, Lieutenant General Vane was responsible for analyzing global trends in technology, strategic environment and lessons learned to devise and recommend the future concept for how the Army should fight, how it should be organized, what its total force structure should be and how it should be manned and equipped to include the individual weapons system requirements. His expertise includes innovation, organizational change, leadership development, resource management, personnel development, technology development and training development.

Lieutenant General Vane’s previous assignments included duty as the Vice Director, J8, the Joint Staff, responsible for force structure, resources and assessments.  In this role, he served often as the chair of the Joint Requirements Oversight Committee (JROC) preparatory session called the JRB, and advised the Vice Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff on matters of force structure, budgets and analysis for the U.S. Department of Defense, the COCOMS and the Services.

Before becoming the Vice Director, J8, the Joint Staff, Lieutenant General Vane was the Commanding General at Fort Bliss, Texas, the U.S. Army’s second largest installation and served as the Commandant of the Air Defense Artillery Branch as well as leading and managing the Air Defense Artillery School in parallel. His experience includes operational commands with global responsibility deploying Air and Missile Defense Units (principally Patriot) to the Middle East, Israel, and Korea for over 4 years.

Lieutenant General Vane’s awards and decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal (with 6 Oak Leaf Clusters), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Legion of Merit (with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Defense Superior Service Medal, and the Distinguished Service Medal.
