Accreditation in British Columbia

Education in British Columbia is regulated by various laws and regulations. Private academic institutions offering non-degree programs longer than 40 hours in duration or at a cost of one thousand dollars or more are required to be registered and/or accredited by the Private Career Training Institutions Agency of British Columbia. Any academic institution offering a course of study leading to a degree is required to be accredited as a degree-granting institution as well as having its degree program approved and accredited by the British Columbia Ministry of Advanced Education.
New Westminster College was founded on August 18, 2011 in accordance with the laws of Canada and British Columbia, including name registration with the British Columbia Registry Services, Business Corporations Act of British Columbia, and licensing laws of the City of New Westminster. New Westminster College is a private academic institution specializing in executive education, English as a second language, and professional training programmes tailored to the needs of professional executives, entrepreneurs, students and adult learners. Our students are awarded advanced diplomas and certificates upon successful completion of prescribed curricula and can only be awarded degrees after New Westminster College and its degree programmes are accredited by law. Credit transfer of our coursework for degree seekers and student exchange programmes will be established and formalized with other accredited universities as valuable components of our accreditation plan.
The first phase of New Westminster College’s accreditation plan includes seeking accreditation for its diploma and certificate academic programmes by initially applying for registration and subsequent accreditation with the Private Career Training Institutions Agency of British Columbia. The second phase of New Westminster College’s accreditation plan includes making application for degree programme recognition, accreditation and degree-granting status with the British Columbia Ministry of Advanced Education. Phase three of New Westminster College’s accreditation plan includes making application for degree programme recognition, accreditation and degree-granting status from foreign education jurisdictions.
