BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: Admiral Dr. Ihor Kabanenko, B.A., M.A., Ph.D.

Admiral Dr. Ihor Kabanenko is a retired Senior Flag Officer of the Ukrainian Navy and a Distinguished Fellow of New Westminster College. He was educated at the Higher Naval College in Sevastopol from 1978 to 1983 and is fluent in Ukrainian, English and Russian. He holds two masters degrees and a Ph.D. from the Central Research Institute of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the sphere of risk management and conflicts resolution. Admiral Kabanenko is an author of row publications and his professional military education includes:

• 2010-2012: Ph.D. in Risk Management and Conflicts Resolution, Central Research Institute of the Armed Forces of Ukraine

• 2008-2008: Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA

• 2006-2006: NATO Defense College, Rome, Italy

• 2005-2005: Defense Language Institute, San Antonio, Texas, USA

• 2004-2004: European Center for Security Studies, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany

• 2000-2002: Master’s degree, National Defense University, Kyiv, Ukraine

• 1990 – 1993: Master’s degree, Kuznetsov Higher Naval Academy, St. Petersburg, Russian Federation

• 1978-1983: Black Sea Higher Naval College – Ukraine

Admiral Kabanenko has a distinguished record of ethical leadership and is an experienced, innovative senior-level leader with a proven record of success who rose to one of the most senior positions in the Ukrainian Navy and retired in December of 2013 with the naval rank of Admiral. His professional leadership experience includes:

• 2003-2006: Chief of Main Staff, Ukrainian Navy

• 2002-2003: Chief of Operational Department, Ukrainian Navy Staff, Ukrainian Navy

• 2000-2002: Student of National Defence Academy

• 1996-2000: Chief of Staff Southern Maritime Region, Ukrainian Navy

• 1995-1996: Deputy Head of Combat Training Department, Ukrainian Navy

• 1994-1995: Head of Branch of Combat Training Department, Ukrainian Navy

• 1993-1994: Senior Officer of Training Department, Ukrainian Navy

• 1990-1993: Student of Kuznetsov Naval Academy
