BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: Professor Dr. Ines Gockel, MD, MBA

Professor Dr. Gockel is a Professor of Surgery, world-renowned surgeon and medical doctor. She is also a Professor of Ethical Leadership, Distinguished Fellow and Governor of New Westminster College. She earned a Doctor of Medicine in 1995 from the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany, and her Thesis on Endocrinology and Metabolic Disorders received magna cum laude honours. Dr. Gockel passed the German National Exam (Step I, II and III) and the United States Medical License Examinations (Step I and II) in 1995. Subsequently, she passed the Board License Examination in General Surgery in 2001 and the Board License Examination in Visceral Surgery in 2005.

Professor Dr. Gockel has a distinguished record of ethical leadership and is currently the Chair and Director, Department of Visceral, Transplant, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at the University Hospital of Leipzig in Germany. She previously served at the Department of General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery, University Medical Center of the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany, and as the Head of the Section and Certified Competence Center of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery and Professor of the Department of General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery.

Professor Dr. Gockel’s clinical specialities include: surgical oncology, minimally-invasive surgery, surgery of the upper gastrointestinal tract, colorectal surgery, hepato-bilio-pancreatic surgery, endocrine surgery; and she has clinical experience in vascular and thoracic surgery, trauma surgery, surgical endoscopy and ultrasonography, proctology, intensive care medicine and emergency medicine.

Professor Dr. Gockel’s additional qualifications and experience include:

  • MBA in International Hospital and Healthcare Management from the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, Frankfurt A.M., Germany
  • Academic Didactic Certificate in Rhetoric and Didactic in Medical Teaching, Center for Quality Assurance and Development of the University Medical Center of the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany
  • Quality Control Manager and Radiation Control Manager of the University Medical Center of the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany
  • Cooperation with the Medical Controlling Department and responsibility for coding and DRG (diagnosis related groups) control of the clinic
  • Cooperation with the Business School of the University of Mainz and studies on optimization of clinical pathways in case and patient management
  • Certificate in Professional Communication (I and II)
  • Mentor in the Edith Heischkel Mentorship Programm of the University of Mainz (Mentoring in Medicine), Germany
