BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Zdravko Popov, M.A., Ph.D.

Ambassador Popov is former Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Czech Republic (2006-2010), and a Distinguished Fellow of New Westminster College. He earned a M.A. in Philosophy and Psychology from Sofia University (St. Kliment Ohridski) in 1976 and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from Sofia University (St. Kliment Ohridski) in 1994. He has been a lecturer since 1977 on B.A. and M.A. courses in B.A. and M.A. courses in philosophy, European studies, globalization, civic education, public diplomacy, international organizations and regional policy at Sofia University (St. Kliment Ohridski) and received his professorial appointment in 1996 as an Associated Professor at Sofia University (St. Kliment Ohridski). His language proficiency includes English, Russian, Italian, Czech and Greek.

Ambassador Popov has an outstanding record of ethical leadership and his professional diplomatic experience includes:

  • 2012-present: Editor-in-Chief of the Diplomacy Journal, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Bulgaria    
  • 2006-2010: Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Czech Republic
  • 2003-2006: Founder and First Director, Diplomatic Institute, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Bulgaria    
  • 2002-2003: Special Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Bulgaria    
  • 2002-2005: Member, Council for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, Office of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria                                       
  • 2000-2002: Member, Central Commission for Juvenile Delinquency to the Council of Ministries, Republic of Bulgaria
  • 2001-2002: Member, National Council of the State Agency for Child Protection, Republic of Bulgaria
  • 1990-1992: Member of the Collegium, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Bulgaria
