BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: The Honourable Dr. Kakha Shengelia, Governor
Governor Shengelia is an active member of the Board of Governors of New Westminster College. He holds Professorial Appointments in Management and History from St. Mary’s University (Canada) and Caucasus University (Georgia). Governor Shengelia has earned the Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Management from St. Mary’s University, Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Georgian History and Master of Arts Degree in International Relations from Ivane Javahišvilis Sakhelobis Tbilisis Sakhelmtsipo Universitei (Georgia), and the Master of Business Administration Degree from the University of Hartford (United States of America). He has also studied at Tbilisi State University (Georgia) and has earned the Bachelor of Business Administration Degree.
Governor Shengelia has a distinguished record of volunteerism and service. He presently serves as the President of Caucasus University. Governor Shengelia played a significant leadership role with the Georgian government and Ministry of Education in establishing democratic reforms in education and accreditation to attain quality academic standards, which has resulted in joint degree programs (BA, BBA, MSc, MBA and PhD) with other accredited universities in numerous countries, including Canada, United States of America, United Kingdom, France and Greece.
Governor Shengelia previously served in the Parliament of Georgia as Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Education, Science, Sports and Culture; and Deputy Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee. He served in the Tbilisi City Council as Vice Premier in Social Affairs prior to serving in Parliament.
Governor Shengelia has been published in several countries and is fluent in English, French, Georgian, Russian and Turkish.
