Dr. Christoph Thomas Starck is a cardiac surgeon, medical doctor, and a Senior Fellow of New Westminster College. He has an outstanding record of ethical leadership and since December 2010 he has served as a Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at the University Hospital Zurich. He graduated from Albert Einstein University in Ulm, Germany in 1999, where he received his Doctor of Medicine for a thesis on the “Ischemia and Reperfusion Trauma”. He received his cardiac surgical training at the Sana Cardiac Surgery Clinic in Stuttgart, Germany and at the Heart Center located in Kreuzlingen, Switzerland and Constance, Germany. In June 2005, he was appointed Junior Consultant Cardiac Surgeon, and in January 2008, as Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at the Heart Center in Kreuzlingen and Constance.

Dr. Starck covers the complete spectrum of cardiac surgical procedures. He has an outstanding reputation in pacemaker and ICD surgery, including lead extraction procedures and cardiac resynchronization therapy. He has organized the International Zurich Expert Meeting in Lead Extraction Procedures, and established an extracorporeal life support transport program at the University Hospital Zurich in collaboration with Swiss Air Rescue.

Dr. Starck’s research activities focus on the development of innovative technologies in assist device therapy, in collaboration with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, on the optimization of extracorporeal circulation technologies and techniques, and on pacemaker-ICD-lead extraction tools and techniques.

Dr. Starck is a member of the following professional organizations and institutions:

  • Member, European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, Windsor, United Kingdom
  • Member, German Society for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Kiel and Berlin, Germany
