BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: Dr. Walid Sayed Abdelkader Hassanen, M.B.B.Ch., M.Sc., MACP

Dr. Walid Sayed Abdelkader Hassanen is a medical doctor, primary care physician, and a Senior Fellow of New Westminster College. He earned a M.B.B.Ch. with Honours in Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine at Cairo University and a M.Sc. in Internal Medicine from the Faculty of Medicine at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. Dr. Hassanen has language proficiency in Arabic and English.

Dr. Hassanen has a distinguished record of ethical leadership and has served as the Qatargas Medical Doctor since 2009 at the Qatargas Doha Medical Center in Al-Ahly Hospital in Doha, Qatar. His duties include being the Senior Medical Doctor, Internist and Adult Primary Care Physician. His experience includes:

  • February 2005 – December 2009: Specialist of Internal Medicine, Head of Primary Care and Preventive Medicine Division at the Internal Medicine Department, International Medical Centre in Cairo, Egypt.
  • July 2002 – January 2005: Resident of Internal Medicine, AL- Zirayeen Hospital, Ministry of Agriculture, Dokki , Cairo , Egypt.
  • July 2000 – July 2002: Resident of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Kobri El-Koba Military Hospital, Ministry of Defense, Cairo, Egypt.
  • March 1999 – March 2000: House Officer – Rotating Internship, Faculty of Medicine , Cairo University Teaching Hospital , Cairo , Egypt.

Dr. Hassanen’s research experience includes:

  • Investigated hypobetalipoproteinimia as a possible mechanism for steatosis in patients with chronic hepatitis C in comparison to patients with long standing D.M. in a study conducted upon 100 patients from 2002 till 2004.
  • Co-investigator in Phase IV trial on efficacy and safety of esomeprazole once daily in treatment of reflux esophagitis. Trials sponsored by Astra Zeneca.

  • 1982-1992: Egyptian Swimming Champion and Member, Egyptian National Swimming Team
  • 1993-1995: Water Polo National Team Member
