Brigadier General Ioannis Galatas, MD, is a Senior Fellow at New Westminster College. He earned a Medical Doctor (M.D.) in Allergology and Clinical Immunology from Aristotelian University of Thessalonica, Medical School; M.A. in Terrorism, International Organized Crime and Global Security from Coventry University (UK); postdoctoral training in Medical and Veterinary Acarology at Reading University (UK), and Aerobiology at Worcester University College (UK); and a Ph.D. in Forensics & Toxicology at the Medical School at Kapodistriakon University of Athens.

Dr. Galatas has a distinguished record of ethical leadership and includes:

  • CBRNE Scientific Coordinator at the Research Institute of European and American Studies (RIEAS)
  • Editor of the CBRNE-Terrorism Newsletter (in English)
  • CEO, CBRN Hydra Consultancy: Specialized consultancy focusing in Medical/Hospital CBRNE Defence in Urban/Megapolis Environment. CEO served as Commandant of Olympic Hospital CBRN Response Unit – the only hospital-based unit deployed during the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
  • Brigadier General, Hellenic National Defense General Staff : Head, Department of Asymmetric Threats, Intelligence Analysis Branch, Joint Military Intelligence Division
  • CBRNE Training, Hellenic National Defence General Staff: While in the military and in accordance to Athens 2004 Olympic Games he was trained in CBRNE issues (operational & medical) in many countries abroad (UK, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic, Iran) including LA training. During the 2004 Olympics, he served as Commandant of the Olympic Hospital CBRN Response Unit (70 people) – the only hospital-based specialized unit deployed for the Games. Since then, hospital CBRNE defence became his passion because he strongly supports the opinion that hospital/medical community represent the weakest link in all state CBRNE response plans.

  • 35 years in the Hellenic Armed Forces – voluntarily retired effective Aug 1st, 2010
  • 20 years as Head, Department of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Army General Hospital of Athens
  • 10 years as CBRNE Officer and Planner – multiple training abroad
  • Former Commandant, Olympic Hospital CBRN Response Unit (2004 Olympic Games)
  • 4 years as Head, Department of Asymmetric Threats, Intelligence Analysis Branch, Joint Military Intelligence Division, Hellenic National Defence General Staff
  • Private Allergy Clinic since 1991
