Lieutenant General Eric E. Fiel is a retired senior general officer of the United States Air Force and a Distinguished Fellow of New Westminster College. He has a distinguished record of ethical leadership and more than 30 years of extensive special operations experience leading and conducting all aspects of Joint and Combined global special operations as well as leading Department of Defense-level special operations strategic planning, programming, budgeting, and research and development. He previously served as Commander, United States Air Force Special Operations Command, Hurlburt Field, Flordia. The command is the U.S. Air Force component of the U.S. Special Operations Command. AFSOC provides Air Force special operations forces for worldwide deployment and assignment to unified combatant commanders. The command has approximately 16,000 active-duty, Reserve, Air National Guard and civilian professionals.

Lieutenant General Fiel entered the United States Air Force in 1981 as a graduate of Officer Training School. He has held a variety of assignments and has commanded at the squadron, group and wing levels. Additionally, he has held a variety of staff positions at major command, unified command, Air Staff and Secretary of the Air Force levels.

Lieutenant General Fiel has significant experience in combat and leadership positions in major joint-contingency operations. He commanded a special operations squadron during Bosnia and Kosovo operations. From September 2001 to March 2003, he was forward-deployed as the Joint Special Operations Air Component Commander in Operation Enduring Freedom. From May 2006 to April 2008, he was forward-deployed as a Task Force Commander multiple times for operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom.

Lieutenant General Fiel is rated as a Master Navigator with more than 2,000 logged hours of flight time. He has flown in the T-43, T-37, MC-130E/H and AC-130A/H/U.

  • 2008-2009: Director, Force Structure, Requirements, Resources, and Strategic Assessments, United States Special Operations Command
  • 2006-2008: Deputy Commanding General, Joint Special Operations Command
  • 2005-2006: Director of Operations, United States Air Force Special Operations Command
  • 2003-2005: Commander, 58th Special Operations Wing, Kirtland Air Force Base, New Mexico
  • 2001-2003: Commander, Aviation Tactics Evaluation Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina

Lieutenant General Fiel graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Management degree from the School of Management at the State University of New York at Buffalo, New York. His postgraduate and professional military education and training include:
