BIOGRAPHICAL SUMMARY: Lieutenant General Karlheinz Viereck, BCH, CONM, MH

Lieutenant General Karlheinz Viereck is a Distinguished Fellow of New Westminster College. He is a graduate of the German Führungsakademie and Danish Command and Staff College. He has extensive experience in management, political-military affairs, education and training. He is an E-Learning expert and has language proficiency in German, English, French, Swedish, Norwegian and Danish.

Lieutenant General Viereck has a distinguished record of ethical leadership. He started his military career with the German Airforce in 1970, and after pilot training at Sheppard AFB, USA, he served first as a combat pilot, then as an operations staff officer. After attending the German and Danish General Staff Officer Courses, he served several times at the Federal Ministry of Defense, as a Commander of a Fighter Wing, and eventually became Commander of the 4th Air Division. He was Deputy Chief of Staff and Director of Operations at the NATO Joint Command Headquarters for Northern Europe in Stavanger, Norway. In 2005, he became Deputy Commander of the Bundeswehr Operations Command in Potsdam, and in 2006, he served as its Commander. From April 2006 to February 2007 Lieutenant General Viereck was appointed EU Operation Commander of the EUFOR mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Lieutenant General Viereck served as Commander of the Bundeswehr Joint Forces Operations Command from 2006 to 2009, and from 2009 to 2013, he served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Joint Force Training at Headquarters, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation, NATO.
