Lieutenant General Thomas G. Miller is a Distinguished Fellow of New Westminster College and has a distinguished record of ethical leadership. He began his military career as an Infantry Officer after earning his commission in 1973 as a Distinguished Military Graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi. His last duty assignment was as the Commanding General of the First United States Army, serving from January 2008 until April 2011, when he retired from the United States Army.

Lieutenant General Miller has served in a wide variety of command and staff assignments predominantly in Airborne and Light Infantry units to include overseas tours in Iraq, Haiti, Korea, Hawaii and Japan.

His key leadership positions include a Rifle Platoon Leader, Weapons Platoon Leader and Rifle Company Executive Officer in the 1st Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, and a Rifle Company Commander in 2d Battalion, 505th Parachute Infantry Regiment, all in the 82d Airborne Division, Operations Officer/S-3 of the 1st Battalion 7th Special Forces Group, Executive Officer of the 1st Battalion 327th Infantry Regiment 101st Airborne Division, Operations Officer/S-3 of the 1st Brigade 101st Airborne Division, Deputy G3/Chief of Operations 101st Airborne Division, Battalion Commander of the 1st Battalion 38th Infantry Regiment, Deputy Chief of Staff/G-3 of the 10th Mountain Division to include operations in Somalia and Haiti, Director of Operations/J3 of JTF180–Operation Uphold Democracy (Haiti), Commander 2d Brigade 25th Infantry Division, Deputy Director of Operations/ J3 U.S. Pacific Command, Assistant Division Commander for Operations 10th Mountain Division, Deputy Commanding General 1st Army, and Commanding General U.S. Army Japan. Prior to assuming his duties as the G3/5/7 of Forces Command, LTG Miller served in Iraq as the Director of Operations, C3, for CJTF-7, and then later as the Director of Strategic Operations, C3, for Multinational Forces Iraq.

Lieutenant General Miller is the recipient of numerous honours, decorations and special skill badges, including the Distinguished Service Medal, the Defense Superior Service Medal (one oak leaf cluster), the Legion of Merit (4 oak leaf clusters), the Bronze Star and the Meritorious Service Medal (6 oak leaf clusters). He has been awarded the Special Forces Tab, Ranger Tab, Master Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Pathfinder Badge and the Expert Infantryman Badge.

Lieutenant General Miller earned a Master of Science in Management from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Master of Science in Management from Troy University. His Professional Military Education (PME) includes the Command and General Staff College and the Army War College.
