MP Jay Aspin, B. Math & Econ, CMC, CITP, EcD

MP Jay Aspin is a Member of Parliament of Canada and a Senior Fellow of New Westminster College. He earned a  a Bachelor of Mathematics and Economics (B. Math & Econ) degree from the University of Waterloo, a Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designation, a Certified International Trade Professional (CITP) designation and is a certified Economic Developer of Canada (EcD).

MP Aspin has a distinguished record of ethical leadership and has been the elected Member of Parliament for the electoral district of Nipissing-Timiskaming in Ontario, Canada since May 2011. He has served the public for more than 34 years on the City of North Bay Council (six terms) and two school boards – the Nipissing Board of Education and the Near North District School Board (six terms).  During his extensive local political career, he was elected President of both the Northern Ontario School Trustees and the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities. He also served as Vice President of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario for six years.

MP Aspin has been engaged in the private sector for the past decade providing business and economic development advisory services to companies expanding their international markets to the United States, Europe and South America. Prior to his involvement in international business development in the private sector, he held several senior executive roles in the public sector in finance, strategic planning and international development with the Ontario Northland Transportation Commission, the largest integrated transportation and telecommunications conglomerate in Northern Ontario.

In Parliament, MP Aspin serves as Vice Chair of the Post Secondary Education Caucus. He is also Chair to the Cleantech Caucus and a member of the Public Accounts and Status of Women’s Committee.
